This project is an update to the LoveOly downtown visitor guide map, which previously was a parking zone map from the City of Olympia. The previous map didn’t reflect the spirit of the community or significant landmarks that make Olympia unique, and lacked visual elements to draw in the audience.
ODA requested a more whimsical map with landmarks, public restroom locations, and cultural elements including hand drawn iconography.
This new map update brings in color from the LoveOly brand guide, a more playful and illustrative style, and illustration representative of Olympia being the capitol city with the Washington State goldfinch and rhododendron. The map also incorporates an important land acknowledgment for the Squaxin Island tribe and the Lushootseed name for Budd Inlet.
